Does your property lawyer need to be near you?
Not always. A property lawyer's work is tied to the land office and local council where the property is registered, not to where you live. Searches, stamping and registration are done with the correct land office for your property, and most of the other work — reviewing documents, answering questions and preparing the agreement — can start with copies of your documents.
Where a document must be signed before a qualified witness, we will tell you when and how it can be arranged, at our Kuala Lumpur or Johor Bahru office or where you are.
Some people still prefer a lawyer they can visit. Our offices are in Kuala Lumpur (Menara Worldwide, Jalan Bukit Bintang) and Johor Bahru (Southkey), and our property team handles matters across the Klang Valley, Johor and Perak.
What to check when choosing a property lawyer
- Registered and practisingA lawyer must hold a valid practising certificate. You can look up a lawyer's name in the Malaysian Bar's online directory.
- A written quotationIn Peninsular Malaysia, legal fees for sale and purchase agreements and loan documents follow the Solicitors' Remuneration Order 2023 scale. Ask for a quotation that separates fees, disbursements and service tax.
- Who handles your fileAsk who will run the file and how you will be kept updated during the process.
- Financing panelsIf you are using a bank loan or LPPSA, check that the firm can act on those financing documents.

What happens when you send an enquiry?
- 1
You send us brief details
Tell us what you want to do, where the property is and what stage the matter is at now.
- 2
We identify the type of matter
We look at whether your matter involves a sale and purchase, a transfer, financing, an estate, the title or something else.
- 3
We look at what needs to be known first
Depending on the situation, some information or documents may need to be checked before the scope can be decided.
- 4
We explain the next steps
If the matter is within the scope we can help with, we will explain the proposed legal work, the engagement and the information we need.
- 5
After appointment, the legal work begins
Once the scope and appointment are agreed, the legal work on your matter is carried out.
How much will my property matter cost?
The cost is not the same for every property matter.
It can depend on things such as:
the type of transaction, the property value, the scope of legal work, financing, any consent needed, stamp duty, disbursements and the condition of the title.
So if you are not yet sure which service you need, there is no need to try to guess the cost first.
Tell us about the transaction.
We work out the relevant scope first, so that the quotation is based on your actual matter.
